Winner of the Milano-Sanremo just a couple of months before, Michele Dancelli of Molteni emerges as one of the greatest sprinters of his generation and a solid candidate for future victories.

In an edition that marked the supremacy of the "cannibal", Dancelli made it special with his spectacular breakaways. That year Dancelli was capable of anything. Marmolada, June 5th, last kilometer of an epic climb. Merckx and Gimondi are stydying each other. The Italian eventually will be second overall. This is a defining moment for the overall classification. When the Dolomites arrive, you are either in or out. Dancelli approaches them, look them in the eyes for a second, then go. They won't get him. Despite being the absolute best riders, Dancelli was gone. It was his fourth stage victory that year.

Eddy Merckx dominated the Grand Tours in 1970, winning both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. Faema and Salvarani with Felice Gimondi being the absolute best teams followed by Molteni with Michele Dancelli, the earlier winner of the Sanremo.

The Faema team, with Rik Van Looy and Vittorio Adorni besides Eddy Merckx, will be the storngest team of 1970. Their classic white and red jersey will be one of the most original design as it introduced new graphic elements such as the reverse arrow spear with the unmistakable coffee machine maker custom-designed script.
